How To Clean A Monitor Screen
There are two types of display categories that are currently available on the market. Nevertheless, you would want to be careful with either of them. It is better to stay on the safe side rather than end up paying money for repair costs that could have been easily avoided.
You should take this task slow and gently. The following are the two display categories;
GLass Coated Screens – These types of screens are used in MacBook devices. These are less delicate and hence easy to clean with mild cleaning solutions. This is because glass is better at tolerating chemicals than other surfaces.
LCD Or LED Screens – These types of screens are commonly used in Windows devices. These have matte surfaces in order to resist glare. LCD or LED coating can be damaged by using cleaning solutions as they are harsh on the screen surface.
Let’s get to business now, the following is how you should clean your monitor screen;
1- Firstly, it is highly recommended that you turn off your device and unplug it from the power source.
2- Now, take a microfiber cloth and gently wipe the screen surface to remove any free dust particles situated on the screen.
3- To clean glass-coated screens of any spots or smudges, you should spray or dab 70% isopropyl alcohol onto the dust-free side of the microfiber cloth. If you spray isopropyl alcohol on the dusty side of the cloth, you would only be smudging your screen even more with the dust particle that you had just cleared.
4- To clean LCD or LED screens of any sports or smudges, you can either use and spray an LCD cleaning solution onto the dust-free side of the microfiber cloth or you can also make a DIY version of the cleaning solution at home. Simply, all you have to do is mix 1:1 parts of white vinegar and distilled water together.
5- After this, wipe the screen surface but be careful as to not let any excess cleaning residue drip onto the screen surface.
6- Allow the screen to air dry.
7- Once dry, if there are any residual streaks left on the screen, gently wipe them away with a microfiber cloth.
Tips You Should Keep In Mind When Cleaning Your Monitor Screen
You should definitely keep the following tips in mind when cleaning your monitor screen;
1- It is highly recommended that you turn off your device before cleaning, this is because due to the cleaning gestures, any static on the screen can result in creating a shock and can end up damaging the internal hardware components. You should also wait for the screen to cool off once you have unplugged it.
2- Do not use household cleaning accessories. This is because even a cotton cloth can have abrasiveness to it at a microscopic level. Hence it is recommended that you use a microfiber cloth as it is extremely soft and is designed in such a way to attract dust and absorb any oily fluid.
3- Do not use hard water as it may contain minerals that can damage the surface of the screen. Instead, use filtered or distilled water as they are much safe.
4- Never use abrasive solutions like bleach or all-purpose surface/spray cleaners as they can ruin the delicate protection coating on the surface of the screen.
5- Never spray cleaning solutions directly on the screen as they can seep inside into the internal components and cause massive damage to the internal hardware.
6- Gently wipe the screen, avoid applying unnecessary pressure and hard scrubbing can damage the internal hardware resulting in discolored spots or even dead pixels on the screen. You should also refrain from wiping in circular motions, instead, you should wipe the screen in broad strokes from side to side.
7- Before turning your screen back on, you should wait for any fluid on the screen to dry off. This would protect the internal components from any short circuit.
